International connections

The 15 State International Airports accommodate airplanes of scheduled and non- scheduled airlines (especially during the summer) as well as charter flights, and handle approximately 82% of the tourists who arrive annually in our country.

Domestic Connections

Apart from the 15 State International Airports, which cater for domestic flights as well, there are also 25 State Domestic Airports all over the country handling domestic flights.
Domestic flights are conducted by Olympic Airlines , Aegean Airlines and Sky Express. During the summer months, due to the increased passenger traffic, the above-mentioned companies carry out extra flights to the existing destinations while they also include in their programmed flights direct connections between popular tourist destinations.  For this reason, it would be wise to obtain information either from the air companies or your tour operator before booking.

By coach

Greece has a huge and efficient network of buses both on the mainland and in the Greek islands.
Contrary to Europe's other countries, buses are most popular than the trains.

International connections:

You can also travel to Greece by bus. Many European cities have bus schedules to Greece.
There were very popular in the past but have declined since the civil war in the Balkans. They are beginning to make a comeback.

The buses usually arrive in the city of Athens, near the train station of Larissis.

The capitals of most prefectures are connected to each other by a dense network of bus services . The intercity coach service (KTEL) operates vehicles that meet all modern technical specifications for the safe and pleasant transport of passengers. Check www.ktel.org

By rail

Greece 's railway network is approximately 2,500 km long, covering a large part of the mainland and linking the country with central Europe and Turkey . Transport of passengers, luggage and driver-accompanied vehicles is ensured by regular daily service. Timetables are determined on a yearly basis. Greek railroads meet high technical standards , comprising trains of the Intercity type (express or regular) and regular trains (high-speed rail). When traveling by rail, it is worth observing the architecture of old stations along the route , most of which were built in the late 19 th century and constitute unique symbols of early industrial architecture.

It acts as a "bridge" from which every year several millions people pass, while in the last years the line has been enriched with departures for Venice and Trieste. At the same time, new ships possessing all modern facilities, attaining higher speeds and with convenient arrival and departure times.

In order to best serve the growing demand for mobile home transport, shipping companies have put to sea vessels with specially formulated areas for campers and caravans.

The beauty of the Greek islands, with the gorgeous beaches, the sun and the crystal-clear waters, is accessible to anyone who chooses Greece as a vacation spot. This is due to the strong network of coastal transport and communications, serviced by modern vessels of all categories, and going to all destinations.

… and now something about bath spa in Greece…

Apart from the rare landscapes and special natural beauties, nature also endowed Greece with springs with important therapeutic properties. Bath spas are part of the country’s national wealth, while their therapeutic properties were already known in ancient times.
Natural mineral resources are scattered all over the country; while the water of these springs differs from common water, either due to the high temperature or to the presence of rare drastic components. The water of these springs is marked as mineral water, because of the temperature or the general chemical composition. Apart from cold mineral springs, there are also hot springs and these are the ones used in therapeutic treatment: bath spa hydrotherapy (thermalism).

The geographic allocation of the springs is not accidental as it is connected either with tectonic events, as is the case for example for the springs of Kaifa, Kyllini and Langada, or with volcanic activities, as in the case of the springs of Methana, Milos, Lesbos, Samothrace, and Limnos.

Hydrotherapy is particularly important for the treatment of multiple affections such as arthritis and rheumatic diseases, and falls into two categories:
- internal therapy, which includes drinking therapy (drinking of natural mineral waters), inhalation therapy (inhalation of fumes or droplets of mineral water) and lavages (oral, nasal, gynaecological)

- external therapy, which includes baths, jet showers (the body is hit by thermal mineral water under high or low pressure for a specific period of time), hydromassaging (the pressure of the water massages the body), hydrokinesotherapy (combination of balneotherapy and kinesotherapy for the period of time the body is inside the water) and fangotherapy (application of mud, which has “ripened”, on those parts of the body that suffer from various disorders).

For the development of bath spa tourism and, in general, of health tourism, two thalassotherapy  centers are already operating on Crete under the special operation sign of the Greek National Tourism Organization and two more are under construction.
This category of tourist infrastructure also includes 16 hydro-treatment centers (in Natural Mineral Springs of tourist importance), in which 1,400,000 therapeutic treatments (baths etc) are offered to approximately 100,000 individuals, as well as hydro-treatment centers at 40 springs of local importance. One more hydro-treatment centre is under construction.

In the balneologic bath spas it's possible to treat cardiovascular system diseases, gastrointestinal system diseases, gyneacological diseases, locomotive apparatus diseases, metabolic system diseases, neurological diseases, oncological diseases, psychological diseases, rheumatological diseases, skin diseases, urinary tract diseases. The climatic bath spa are very crowded, since due to the climate influences of the mountains and seacoast, illnesses that cause respiratory and allergic problems, both in the children and in the adults, can be treated. The thermal bath spas are situated in all of the territory. Greek bath spas are quite equipped and offer high quality services.

Thalassotherapy

During the past few years thalassotherapy has become steadily more popular in Greece, with modern facilities offering the therapeutic properties of seawater.  A combination of relaxation, revitalisation, recreation and therapy in the suitable climatological conditions of our country and the excellent water of the Greek seas.

Services are offered for healing purposes. These bath spas provide every type of balneal and physical therapy. Throughout history bathing and spa tourism has always played an important role in Greece.

Holiday in Greece

There are obvious reasons why Greece is a perfect destination for a truly relaxing holiday. Steeped in history and culture, Greece is endowed with beautiful scenery and stunning mountainous landscapes. Greece also boasts fantastic summer weather, with beautiful unspoilt coastlines and beach resorts, in addition to wonderful food and a great night life culture. However the ancient Grecian architecture doesn`t need to be the only thing in Greece that is kept in good shape- if the body is a temple, then Greece can also be the place to truly pamper it. .Greece`s previous volcanic activity has created special components of the natural water, which includes a higher concentration of healing and age-defying minerals. Even in Ancient Greece, public baths were popular due to the special qualities of the water and has been a staple of Greek health for centuries.<br>

Types of spa

Many spas in Greece offer a variety, if not all, of the types of spa treatments available. However spa treatments can be split broadly into two categories:
Hydrotherapy Spas
Hydrotherapy spas combine either internal absorption of the water, either by drinking of the highly mineralised water with inhaling the steam, or by absorbing the water externally, through for example a bath or shower, or a specialist massage which uses water pressure to impact upon a particular area of the body. These can be found in hydro treatment spas, or hydro treatment centres, which are found locally near the sites of the hot springs.

Thalassotherapy spas
Thalassotherapy spas concentrate on the healing properties found in elements of the water, more specifically the sea water and its components such as seaweed, sand, mud and algae. This type of spa is more usually visited by those wishing to treat or tone their skin and body, or to improve circulatory systems, and may include mud wraps or massages. Thalassotherapy centres may contain swimming pools, hotel rooms and other relaxation services.

Whilst both of these spas may be found throughout Greece, some are specifically located on the site of hot springs or the origins of water, and therefore can tend to be more crowded. Places like Kos have natural hot spring sites that are free, but for a true balneological experience, booking into a balneaological spa can be the way forward, as these can often be found on site.

Taking a spa break in Greece can also be a truly indulgent experience without costing the earth. You can tailor your holiday to Greece to become a fully fledged spa holiday by staying in spa resort. For example in Crete, there are 24 hour Thalassotherapy centres which are also fully functioning hotels complete with sports centres, deluxe or luxury rooms, and excellent restauraunts. Or why not stay in an all inclusive hotel if the purse strings are tighter and make a visit to a day spa? Spa stays vary in price, but this need not be a problem. For those on a budget, for example, an expensive spa can become affordable if visited only for a day. Or, a cheaper day spa break can be extended to incorporate a whole week of your holiday. Whatever your holiday in wonderful Greece, it is possible to combine a spa break and have relaxing and revitalising cheap holidays worthy of the Greek gods themselves http://www.dealchecker.co.uk/cheap-holidays.html .
