If you would like to spend some pleasant days in a peaceful place which is rich in natural beauties, you should visit the small spa of Ásotthalom. There is only one large thermal pool and one small pool for the children. The water contains iodide, sulphur and iron, thus it is recommended for those who suffer from some joint problems or rheumatism. There are some sport grounds and a holiday camp inside the complex.
History
Until the 18C Ásotthalom and its surroundings were the land of scattered farms. It became a real settlement only in the 19C. A small center was built, with one shop, one school, one pub and a church. Joseph Ferenc also founded a specialized secondary school of agriculture here. In the 20C the railway was laid down. Due to these develops, Ásotthalom started to play an important role in this land’s economical life.
Place of interest
This land is the paradise of those, who like to explore nature. There is a large meadow near Ásotthalom, known as “Meadow of Miracles” (Csodarét), where you can see some beautiful flowers at spring time. Actually, every month of the spring has a different color here. You should also visit Ferenc Kiss Memorial Forest. There has been no forestry work done since the last 120 years, so you can see here what happens with nature if men don’t work on it.
If you like buildings, and inhabited land, walk around Ásotthalom, where you can see some nice old houses, an old chapel of Baroque style, and you can enter some taverns, to taste the wine of this land.
