In the picturesque corner of south-east Slovakia in the lap of the stunning countryside

The main indicative bearing of the health spa is cure of the respiratory system.
Due to the Swiss classification the health spa has a sanatory climate with stimulation degree No.1 with typical features of the mountain environment and its fresh air.
The spa has been constantly building on its heritage, its favourable altitude of about 650m above sea, the number of sunny days, but also the forest park (national cultural inheritage) with more than 200 species of rare woods and plants which is architectonically completed with its brooklet and cascades and the fountain.
The effects of climatherapy in Štós Health Spa is multiplied with Speleotherapy, a unique health treatment in the near cave of Jasov. The spa has long traditions in this therapy with very good curative results.
Štós Health Spa boasts with 120-year-long history. It owes its origin indirectly to the traditional mining industry and smithery which were flourishing on the upper flow of the river Bodva since the XIVth century.
The colonization having been supported in the last centuries by the sovereigns, brought many inhabitants of German and Polish origin to this area. The craft handiness of smiths, inherited through generations, impulsed to build up a first factory SANDRIK specialised on knives production in Štós in 1803. It was in this factory where Róbert Komporday worked as a knife manufacturer, a laical enthousiast and supporter of hydrotherapy.
He knew the beneficial effects of the hydrotherapy and he suggested to build up a spa. His idea found many supporters and on his suggestion the reputable people of the town of Štós came together in March 1881 to realize the idea which they had been thinking about for long months already, to build up a spa.
They were keen on this suggestion and convinced about the rightness of this matter. So in 1882 they started to build the spa and a year later they would open a new season. Róbert Komporday became the first director of the spa at the age of 36. Besides the climatherapy it was the hydrotherapy based on Kneip and Preisnitz methods, which was mostly used.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage (full body) - is a special technique used to influence lymphatic system. Its aim is to move the excess fluid especially in the tissues of limbs. This massage is being done on the skin and subcutis, in circular and spiral courses with a slow frequency.

Finnish Sauna
Štós Health Spa was the first spa in Czechoslovakia where the Finnish sauna was built due to Viherjuuri´s Project in 1962. The original one was reconstructed, but its traditional features have been preserved.
The basis of taking a traditional Finnish sauna is a stay in dry hot room typically warmed to 60°C - 80°C. The length of stay is 10 minutes maximum with following cooling in the air or by having a shower, never by shock. Taking a sauna is a very efficient exercise of dermal vessels´ elasticity and it the most natural and the deepest skin purification. The effects of sauna are used also to increse the defence system.
Scotch Spitzers- stimulating treatment, altering hot water and cold water spraying of the whole body.
Paraffin- thermotherapeutic treatment at which the paraffin is applied by repeated immersing of hands into the melted paraffin warmed to 53°C or the paraffin is put on the threatened place.
Speleotherapy is the highest value of Štós Health Spa, a unique health treatment of respiratory system provided in the near cave of Jasov. The spa has longtime traditions in this therapy with very good curative results.
It is a method, profiting of specific properties of this environment and especially of aerosol from the subterranian spaces, mostly carst caves which are used to to cure diseases of respiratory system and alergic diseases.
The essential curative agent of speleotherapy is the cave air. The cave is actually the natural inhalation room which seems to be unique as to its composition, inimitable in any artificial way. Its special property is its constancy and ability of very fast renewal.
