Bath Spa Štrbské Pleso

 

 

 

Established under Solisko and Satan´s peaks betwenn Štrbské pleso and Nové (New) Štrbské pleso tarns in Mlynický creek valley, it as at the highest elevation of any spa and tourist Settlement in Slovakia. D. Frohlich described Nové Štrbské pleso tarn in 1666 and in J. Buchholtz senior wrote of a local distillery of cedar-pine/dwarf pine oils in 1719.

 

 

The area was owned until 1901 by the Szeltványi family, who built the first building - a hunters cottage - there in 1872.

Nové (New) Štrbské Pleso tarn (1,315 meters), extended by a 1905 arrangement of a creek, lies some 40 meters below the old Štrbské pleso lake. A settlemnt with hotel were built according designs by architect K. Móry at this time. Zhe hotel was originally a cottage with an outlook cabin. A church was built later. When the cottage burnt down in 1965 it was replaced by the Baník labour union recreational facility for miners. The lake is frozen over 160 days a year on average.

Natural climatic spas Štrbské Pleso are located 1,351 m above sea level in the highest mountains in Slovakia - High Tatras. This center rank to unique mountainous climatic place in Slovakia and in central Europe.

Treatment of chronic unspecified diseases of respiratory track and lungs in High Tatras has history of more than one hundred years old.

Current climate of the Tatras is significantly continental with typical elements of high mountains environment. Average sunshine time of more than 2,000 hours belongs to very imporant bioclimatic factors of the spas. Average annual temperature of Štrbské Pleso is approx. 3.2°C, average rain fall is from 1,200 to 1,700 mm, the vegetation belongs to mountain level of spruce forest. Štrbské Pleso is convenient for health and in 1,350 m above sea level the treatment effects reach the quality of the Alpine spas, probably given by geographical latitude.

Climatic therapy is the basic treatment method. The main part of the treatment is formed by stays of patients on fresh air supplemented by treatment rehabilitation. Included is the medical, physical and inhalation treatment accroding to doctor´s advice. The whole treatment process is supported by diet system with wide variety of diets according to doctor´s specifications including vegetarian food.
