The spa Korytnica is situated in the protected area of the Low Tatras National Park (NAPANT) at the northern slope of the Prašivá peak, 24 km in the east from Ružomberok. You can find here mineral springs of plaster, ferric and carbonic water that were known already in the 16-th century. The spa settlement was founded in the 19-th century. Gastric, casing, liver diseases are still healed here.
By the end of the 18-th century some attempts were made to mine gold in the surroundings. Swamped old mines can still be found. Water that was needed for mining industry was taken from the village Pusté to the village Špania Dolina through an elevated duct.
The spa building Hygia was transformed into a military hospital after the liberation of the Ružomberok city during the World War II. The spa was modernised after the war.
The Korytnica Spa is known since the second part of the 19th century. The first spa buildings were built in 1824. After two great fires in 1911 and 1921, a large part of the spa was destroyed. More late the thermal complex was restored again. The Korytnica Spa is situated in the national Park of Low Tatras under the Prasiva mountain, 850 m above sea level and 30 km from town of Banska Bystrica.
Indications: Thanks to moderately mineralised and hipotonic mineral water, containing sulphate-carbonate, calcium-magnesium, carbon-iron, in the Korytnica Spa it possible to treat gastric diseases, problems of stomach, liver, duodenum, gall blader, choledoch, diabetes, anaemia and postoperative treatments of the small and large intestine and ulcer.

Sport activities: during the winter there is the possibility to ski in the Donovaly ski center, where take place also the competitions of the sledge-dogs, while in the summer there is the possibility to do paraglaiding or hiking in the spa surroundings.
