On the west side of the valley of the Hron river, on the foothills of the Kremnické vrchy Mts. is the spa Kováčová specialised in therapy of locomotion apparatus and neurology.
Kováčová is one of the youngest spas in Slovakia. In 1964 a new spring was discovered in this area. It now feeds the whole spa compound. Its yield is 3,000 l/min.
Therapy leans on the moderately mineralised sulphur-hydrogen-carbonate, calcium-magnesium water with elevated content of fluorine at temperature of 48.5°C. It emanates from the depth of 502 m. Hydrotherapic procedures include bathing in pools or tubs, paraffin wrapping, various classes of massage and complete physio-rehabilitating therapy.
The National Rehabilitation Centre also seats in the spa Kováčová.
