The spa is located in a northwestern part of Slovakia close to Trencin in one of the side valleys of central Vah River region, i.e. this spa city is located only 14 km far from Trencin. Altitude is 272 m above the sea level. Due to its position the spa is protected from winds, as well as easily accessible to sunshine from the south. How to get there:

This bath spa resort is situated only 145 kilometers far from the international airport in Bratislava. You can get there by car by highway or use the train or bus connection.

History:

According to an old legend, the thermal springs were found by a poor shepherd who was looking for his lost sheep and found a small lake with sulphureous smell. The first written document about the springs dates from 1274. The thermal springs were already known at the start of our era to the hunting nations of the Quadi and Marcomani, later on to the Roman legions which established a camp in Laugaritio - Trencin at present.

A unique commemoration was left over to us in a Latin inscription in the rock of the Trencin castle in 179 a.c. since the end of the 13th century until 1900 the health resort belonged to the owners of the Trencin castle. It was in 1594 that the bath spa became ownership of the family Illésházy who held it for 241 years till 1835. During this period the health resort became an outstanding bath spa of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy. In 1835 it was sold to Georg Sina a banker from Vienna. During the control of the Sina´s a new period of flourishment started. His son Simon built new bath spa buildings and the bath & spa park was enlarged. Simon´s daughter Iphigenia let build a beautiful monument in Moorish style called Hammam in 1888.

The bath spa includes the houses of treatments in classical and modern style, they are situated in a park, full of paths and panoramic places. The most famous and characteristic building of the bath spa complex and the city itself is a bath spa house called Sina including the Hammam bath spa built in 1888 in oriental style. Other interesting objects are the sanatorium and the music pavilion of 1932.
